Lexington's Art on the Town program is set to return for its third year, offering local artists and authors the chance to showcase and sell their work in downtown Lexington. The program provides mobile art carts to a variety of artists, including painters, printmakers, jewelers, woodworkers, and authors, among others.

"The mobile art carts have been widely popular in Lexington," Mayor Linda Gorton stated. "Art on the Town allows our residents and visitors to come together to support and learn from our talented and diverse arts community."

Starting in March, the program will invite new Kentucky artists to submit an application and attend an upcoming Artist Orientation Session. The orientations are mandatory for newcomers and will be held on February 8th and February 20th. Interested artists can reserve a spot by emailing Heather Lyons, Lexington Director of Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Once artists have completed the application process and attended the required orientation, they will become part of the "Art on the Town" roster. They will then have the opportunity to schedule and use the carts at no cost. Artists who have been juried into established programs or selected for art exhibits or fairs are encouraged to apply.

"Artists and their artwork reflect our local culture and have the power to inspire and connect us through their creativity," Lyons emphasized. "The Art on the Town program has been enthusiastically received by our local community, as well as visitors and tourists. The artists act as friendly ambassadors and important small businesses in our community. We are delighted to see the program rapidly increasing opportunities for artists to sell their work to local, national, and international audiences."

In the previous season, 41 artists utilized the art carts at a total of 64 events. The carts were used a remarkable 265 times throughout the season, making appearances at the Farmer's Market, Thursday Night Live, and various downtown fairs and festivals.
