The Urban County Council has approved the creation of a regional business park in Berea, marking the first public, multi-county economic development project in Central Kentucky. The 300-acre park will be located at Menelaus Industrial Park and involves collaboration between the Lexington Fayette Urban-County Government, the City of Berea, Madison County, and Scott County. Each county will receive 33% of tax revenues generated by the park after a 10% hosting fee is allocated to Berea.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton emphasized the benefits of regional economic development: “Regional economic development is a winner for everyone. When Central Kentucky’s economy is strengthened, we all benefit. This project will provide good jobs and tax revenue that will allow governments to make improvements.”

The project has secured $5.5 million in Congressionally Directed Funding through Congressman Andy Barr for site development.

Berea Mayor Bruce Fraley expressed his satisfaction with the collaborative effort: “It is a true pleasure to work with visionary leaders who are committed to working collaboratively for the greater good of our respective communities and the broader region.”

Scott County Judge Executive Joe Pat Covington highlighted the strategic advantage of collaboration: “It makes good business sense for communities to collaborate for the common good to attract new business opportunities.”

Madison County Judge Executive Reagan Taylor affirmed their commitment to regional growth: “This initiative is a testament to our belief in collaboration and innovation as key drivers for long-term prosperity.”

In related infrastructure updates, Squires Road will be closed temporarily starting December 6th for reconstruction. The Valley View Ferry will halt operations from November 30th for recertification and repairs. Additionally, Martin Luther King Blvd. will close between East Fifth Street and Rand Ave. beginning November 25th due to sewer construction.
