One lane of West High Street will be closed for two weeks, from December 9 to December 20, to facilitate the installation of speed tables. The closure will be in effect around the clock. Initially, the right lane will be closed for about a week, followed by the left lane. Manchester Street at West High Street will also be closed during this period, but access to Manchester Street and the Central Bank Center garage will remain available via Oliver Lewis Way.
The construction involves placing two new speed tables on West High Street—one near Merino Street and another near Madison Place. Two similar structures have already been installed in front of Rupp Arena on the same street. Speed tables differ from speed bumps in that they are longer and flatter, providing an effective means to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance road safety.
In addition to these changes on West High Street, Squires Road will experience a temporary one-week closure starting December 6 for road rebuilding efforts. Furthermore, Valley View Ferry operations ceased on November 30 at 8 p.m., with expectations to resume after one or two months following recertification and necessary repairs.
