Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Seeks Public Comments on MLK Apartments Project

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is inviting public comments on the MLK Apartments project located at 530 North Martin Luther King Blvd., Lexington, KY. The project, proposed by the Qureshi Development Group, aims to transform an existing historic church building into 20 multifamily units of permanent affordable rental housing.

According to the announcement, eight of the units will be funded by HOME funds, while three will be funded by HOME-ARP. The estimated cost of the project is $3,078,000, with approximately $1,140,728 of HOME funds and $272,786 of HOME-ARP funds being utilized. The remaining cost will be covered by Lexington AHTF, Developer Funds, and Private Neighborhood Investment.

To provide more information about the Federal 106 Review Process and to engage potential consulting parties, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is encouraging interested individuals, groups, or agencies to submit written comments on the proposed project. Comments can be addressed to Celia Moore, Grants Manager, Grants and Special Programs, LFUCG, at the above address or emailed to grants@lexingtonky.gov. The deadline for submitting comments is Friday, January 26, 2024.

Furthermore, the government is carrying out the Federal Section 106 Review Process in accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act. Those with a vested interest in the project or with relevant historic property-related information can request further details by contacting Bettie Kerr at grants@lexingtonky.gov or (859) 258-3265. The rights and obligations of consulting parties as part of the Federal Section 106 Review Process can be found on the HUD Historic Preservation website and the Citizen Guide to Section 106 Review.
