LEXPARK, the Lexington Parking Authority, is thrilled to announce the extension of its nationally-recognized “Food for Fines” initiative in collaboration with God’s Pantry Food Bank, through Friday, Dec. 29 due to the outpouring of support and generosity by the community. Please note that the office will be closed on Dec. 22 and 25.

Since its inception in 2014, the “Food for Fines” program has sought to foster community engagement and provide a means to support those in need during the holiday season. To participate, those in the community who have outstanding parking tickets will have the option to donate canned goods at the LEXPARK offices, located at 122 North Broadway in Lexington, in exchange for reduced fees.

Canned vegetables and meat which are at least 14 ounces in size, as well as dry good items such as beans or peanut butter are suggested. Expired, damaged, or opened food donations cannot be accepted.

For every 10 cans of food donated, individuals will receive $15 off any LEXPARK or Lexington Police-issued parking citation. There is no limit on the number of canned food customers with multiple citations may bring in, so those with outstanding fees are encouraged to donate as many cans of food as they want. If residents want to check to see if they have a citation, they can simply enter their license plate at the “Pay a Citation” page on the LEXPARK.org site.

This extension of the “Food for Fines” program further underscores the commitment of LEXPARK to serve the Lexington community beyond its role in managing parking services. Through such initiatives, LEXPARK continually strives to contribute positively to the community’s well-being.

The goal of the Lexington Parking Authority, which was created by the Urban County Council in 2006, is to provide, maintain and operate adequate, high-quality, customer-focused public parking and encourage economic growth.
