Election Day has concluded, and residents are reminded to remove political yard signs. These signs and stakes are not suitable for recycling in the blue recycle carts. However, Lexington's Division of Environmental Services offers a solution by accepting them for reuse and recycling until November 18, 2024.

The Division advises against placing yard signs and metal stakes in recycle carts or mixed recycling dumpsters due to potential damage to equipment at the Recycle Center. Instead, they encourage residents to bring these items directly to designated drop-off locations. The metal stakes will be reused or recycled as scrap metal, while corrugated plastic signs will be processed through Rumpke and bag-like signs through Trex.

To facilitate this initiative, the City has collaborated with local businesses and organizations to set up drop-off bins available during regular business hours. Residents planning to drop off large quantities of signs can arrange a special drop-off by emailing the Division.

Additionally, Lexington’s Division of Environmental Services recently undertook the removal of several hazardous trees from the downtown area.
