The Lexington Police Department has issued a severe weather traffic alert due to power outages affecting traffic signals at several intersections. Trees and debris have also fallen onto roadways, creating additional hazards. The department is collaborating with road crews and Kentucky Utilities to clear these obstacles and restore power as quickly as possible.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution while on the roads. "As crews continue to work to restore power and clear road hazards, we are asking anyone on the roads to use caution," said a police spokesperson.

Motorists encountering non-functional or flashing traffic lights should follow specific protocols. "Officers are assisting with traffic and road hazards. Follow all directions given by officers," the spokesperson advised.

Extra care is recommended in school zones and during evening rush hours. Drivers should adhere to posted traffic signs and signals, allowing extra time for safe travel.

In case of downed power lines, the public is warned not to approach or attempt to move them. "If you come across a downed power line, assume the line is live and do not attempt to move it. Stay inside your vehicle, and do not drive over a fallen power line," emphasized the spokesperson. Reports can be made by calling the power company or Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600.

From midnight until 2:00 p.m., officers have responded to multiple calls related to the severe weather conditions.
