The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) has been notified of available funding from the United States Justice Department under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program 2024 Local Solicitation. The JAG program provides local agencies with flexibility to prioritize and allocate justice funds where needed. LFUCG is eligible to receive a formula amount of $117,792.00, based on population and Part One Violent Crime statistics.
Awards are made in the first fiscal year of the appropriation and may be expended over the following three years. Extensions beyond this period may be granted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of BJA and must be requested via the Grants Management System (GMS) no less than 30 days prior to the grant end date.
JAG funds can be used for state and local initiatives to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice.
The Lexington Police Department recommends these funds be allocated as follows: This week, surveying will begin for a project aimed at improving safety along a busy Lexington corridor. Part of Delong Road will be limited to one lane of traffic from Monday, Sept. 16 to Friday, Oct. 4.
Fayette County residents can dispose of household materials such as paint and cleaners at the city’s fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection event.
