Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in Cycle September. The themed month is part of an international movement to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion while improving public health. More trips by bicycle result in a more efficient transportation network and safer streets.
The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is the local sponsor for the effort. Participants can sign up for Love to Ride, an online cycling platform that encourages people to ride bikes. Users can log rides, set goals, earn badges, connect with other riders, and more. During Cycle September, participants have the chance to win prizes from local businesses and compete with coworkers through the workplace challenge. Registration is available at lovetoride.net/Lexington.
The City of Lexington and its partners at Broke Spoke, Seedleaf, and Pedal Power will host events throughout September.
In related city news, Lexington is taking steps to address odor issues in the sanitary sewer system. Additionally, due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept 2, there will be no city waste collection on that day.
On Sunday, Aug. 18, traffic on North Upper Street between Main Street and Short Street will be limited to one lane from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
