The City of Lexington, in collaboration with the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station, is organizing a free trash disposal day for Fayette County residents. The event will take place on Saturday, July 13, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station located at 1505 Old Frankfort Pike.
Residents of Fayette County are permitted to dispose of up to one pickup truck load of non-hazardous household waste during this event. Items can also be brought in cars or SUVs. Materials typically handled by the city’s curbside trash collection program will be accepted without charge.
However, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, and large outdoor items will incur the regular gate rate and do not qualify for free disposal.
Guidelines for the free disposal day include:
- Appliances and electronics will not be accepted for free during this event. Residents may take appliances to Environmental Recycling Inc. at 3899 Winchester Road where they will be accepted at no charge.
- Electronic devices such as computers, printers, cell phones, microwave ovens, and televisions can be dropped off at no cost at the city’s Electronics Recycling Center located at 1306 Versailles Road.
- Liquid latex paint donations can be made to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 451 Southland Dr.
- Hazardous materials including pesticides, motor oil, and paint will not be accepted. These materials can be disposed of at no cost during the next Household Hazardous Waste Collection on September 14.
Lexington provides four free disposal days annually in January, April, July, and October at the Transfer Station. Residents can sign up for text or email alerts regarding other Waste Management events.
