The Urban County Council today voted to reject a bid the City received in February to build a new city hall. Mayor Linda Gorton expressed the council's decision by stating, "The Council agreed that this particular proposal would not ultimately be in the best interest of the government."

The bid in question was a “P3” proposal, a public-private partnership. Mayor Gorton explained, "We will look at other options. There are many demands on city revenue. When we make a decision that involves significant resources, we must weigh it against other needs and consider how best to serve the public. In this case, the numbers did not add up."

In other news, Lexington will be hosting a free paper shred event on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike.
