Fayette County residents aged 50 and above have the opportunity to engage with their local government through the 2024 Senior Intern Program. The program, which has been running for 38 years, allows seniors to interact with city decision-makers, join class activities, and visit various government facilities. Participants will also have the chance to go on field trips to key government operations such as the Mayor’s Office, Lexington Fire & Emergency Services, and the Division of Police.

The program, slated for June 10 – 14, is open to the first 45 eligible applicants. Only individuals who have not previously attended the program are eligible to participate. Interested seniors can reach out to Kristy Stambaugh at kstambau@lexingtonky.gov or (859) 278-6072. Alternatively, sign-ups are accepted at the Lexington Senior Center located at 195 Life Lane.

This initiative was originally established by Churck Ellinger Sr and Bob Babbage to provide seniors with a deeper understanding of local governance and operations.
