Part of Devonport Drive in Lexington will undergo temporary closure for sewer construction starting Wednesday, March 27. The closure, expected to last for two weeks, is necessary for sanitary sewer improvements near the Pleasant Cove Apartments.
The construction on Devonport Drive is a crucial component of the Parkers Mill trunk sanitary sewer project. This project aims to enhance the sanitary sewer system by expanding the size of a significant stretch of sewer pipe, approximately 5,000 feet, from Alexandria Drive to Devonport Drive, crossing Versailles Road and concluding near Cross Keys Park.
As part of the federal consent decree requirements, Lexington is committed to enhancing its sanitary sewer infrastructure. The ongoing construction work on Devonport Drive is a testament to the city's dedication to meeting these regulatory obligations and ensuring a more efficient sewer system for residents.
Residents and motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the closure period. A detour is available through Alexandria Drive and Carson Drive to navigate around the closed section of Devonport Drive.
In addition to the infrastructure improvements, a grant program for social service agencies has expanded its eligibility criteria to include a new priority area, mental health. This initiative signifies the city's efforts to address diverse community needs and support essential services for its residents.
The temporary closure of Devonport Drive underscores the city's ongoing commitment to infrastructure development and compliance with regulatory standards to enhance the overall quality of life for Lexington residents.
