The Lexington Police Department, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and law enforcement agencies nationwide, will be hosting a National Prescription Take Back Day event. The event is scheduled to take place on April 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kentucky American Water located at 2300 Richmond Road.

During the event, members of the public will have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted or expired medication for free. It is emphasized that liquids, aerosol cans, and needles will not be accepted at the Take Back Day event. Those interested in participating are encouraged to visit DEAtakeback.com or lexingtonky.gov/med-disposal for more information on the proper disposal of prescription drugs.

In a statement, it was highlighted that cleaning out one's medicine cabinet could have significant positive impacts, such as preventing theft, drug abuse, and potentially saving lives. Additionally, individuals were urged to participate in Earth Hour by dedicating sixty minutes to volunteering, learning, or assisting others in making improvements.

The event aims to raise awareness about the safe disposal of prescription drugs and provide the community with a convenient and secure means to dispose of such medications.
