It may be snowing outside, but spring is right around the corner! That means Lexington is seeking Water Week event hosts. Water Week is a collaborative effort among water quality professionals, organizations and volunteers. Events connect residents to local waterways and with actions to improve and protect water quality.
This year, Water Week takes place from March 16 -23. Events can be in-person, self-guided or virtual anytime during the week. All events submitted for consideration should be free. Hosts may charge a minimal fee to help cover supply costs.
Past Water Week events include litter cleanups, tree plantings, tours of water quality projects, creek walks, trivia nights, lectures, workshops and an introduction to canoeing. Past Water Week hosts are encouraged to submit events again, and new hosts are always welcome.
Water Week events can:
- Raise awareness about water quality issues in our community
- Encourage Lexington residents to explore local creeks
- Involve participants in service projects that improve water quality
Water Week event submissions are being accepted on the Water Week webpage. The deadline to submit an event is Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Water Week is sponsored by the City of Lexington, the University of Kentucky, Kentucky American Water and local watershed groups.
