Today, Mayor Linda Gorton and members of the 250 Lex Commission unveiled the official logo that will promote the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the city’s founding, coming in 2025.

“2025 is going to be a big year for our city,” Gorton said. “This logo encompasses the significance of our 250th anniversary, while highlighting our vibrant arts community.”

In September 2023, Gorton announced the members of the Mayor’s 250 Lex Commission. The commission is responsible for planning an entire year’s worth of events honoring the cultural and historic significance of Lexington’s past, present and future.

One of the first steps taken by the commission was a 250th anniversary logo design contest to help promote and celebrate the anniversary of the city’s founding. This winning logo will be used in all marketing materials, as well as promotional products surrounding the 2025 celebration.

After receiving 22 creative submissions, the winning design was chosen by a selection committee made up of members of the Mayor’s Office and the 250 Lex Commission.

The chosen logo was created by Savannah Guthrie, a Lexington resident and graphic designer.

250 Lex Commission co-chair Kip Cornett said, “Savannah’s work is not only colorful and celebratory, but also is very flexible and will allow us to bring 250 Lex to life.”

“I heard about this opportunity through a friend just a few days before the deadline,” Guthrie said. “Even though it was a rush to finish, after reading the brief, I knew instantly what I wanted to create. With a city like Lexington, there were so many directions an artist could take with this project … historical events, equine imagery, rolling hill landscapes, city life, cultural significance. But for me, my goal was to create a simple, bright, celebratory theme that encompasses it all! Lexington is a really special place to me, and I'm so honored to play a part in celebrating this milestone birthday."
