Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has unveiled plans for the new Davis Park Workforce Center, which aims to provide residents with employment resources and solutions. The center, located at 501 DeRoode St., will offer a multitude of career and employer services for all residents and businesses of Lexington-Fayette County.
According to Mayor Gorton, the Davis Park Workforce Center will help individuals improve their job skills, train the workforce, and assist jobseekers with essential employability skills. Onsite staff will be available to provide assistance with resume writing, interview skills, job searching, and more. The center will also provide access to computers for job searching, virtual interviews, resume building, and online training.
"We hope to create a pipeline to high demand careers to ensure that our residents have employment opportunities, and that employers are able to fill their workforce needs," said Amy Glasscock, Mayor's Office Director of Business Engagement.
Councilmember Jennifer Reynolds expressed her excitement for the workforce training facility, stating that it will be a significant benefit to the residents in the 11th District who are seeking more resources to secure good jobs. She emphasized the importance of everyone having a job that is fulfilling and allows them to pay their bills.
The Davis Park Workforce Center will not only cater to jobseekers but will also provide resources for businesses and partner agencies. It will feature a community room for meetings, job fairs, and resource events, as well as a training room for youth and adults to develop employability skills through workshops, career coaching, and trainings.
Johan Graham, President of AU Associates, expressed his enthusiasm for the workforce center, stating, "It is a wonderful day to celebrate another phase of the Lexington Community Land Trust." The center is part of an affordable housing project being developed by AU Associates in the Davis Park neighborhood, with tax credits related to the funding of the affordable housing being used to build the workforce center.
The development of the Davis Park Workforce Center has received support from various organizations and institutions, including HOPE of the Midwest, CAHEC, Cedar Rapids Banks & Trust, and Kentucky Housing Corporation.
