Lexington Parks & Recreation’s golf program, also known as Play Golf Lex, just announced the 2024 schedule for the Lexington City Championships, Lexington City Scrambles, Play Golf Lex Junior and Amateur Tours, and adult golf classes. Parks & Recreation has continued to expand their golf offerings and schedules, matching the increase in golf popularity in recent years.
“Our golf courses remain a vital part of what we offer,” said Monica Conrad, Director of Lexington Parks & Recreation. “Golf, which was showing growth before the pandemic, has really taken off in recent years. Our tournaments are seeing record numbers and the activity at our courses continues to grow. We’re proud to present another full schedule at our city’s public courses – available for juniors, seniors, and everyone in between.”
The Lexington City Championships and City Scrambles, one-off events people can register for, have seen a steady increase in participation, with eight of the twelve events showing notable increases in registrations this past year. The Cabin Fever, Pumpkin Patch Classic, and Team Championship all sold out in the 2023 season.
“As popularity for the sport expands year over year, our amazing team continues to match that need with a comprehensive and expansive schedule,” said Justin Mullannix, Golf Manager for Lexington Parks & Recreation. “We know we will see many returning golfers who enjoy our courses and events, but also look forward to welcoming new faces wanting to give the sport a try. Even if you’re not ready for a tournament, now is a great time to grab some friends, rent some clubs, and give golf a try. I hope to see you out on the greens!”
Lexington Parks & Recreation also offers men and women’s amateur tours – the Play Golf Lex Am Tour. The men’s tour, in its fifth season, saw an average event increase of 17% in 2023, with 280 unique players participating. The women’s tour, which enters its third season, had a 10% increase in participation this past year. The 2024 Play Golf Lex Am Tour begins April 6 and runs until the Tour Championship on September 7 at Kearney Hill Golf Links.
The Play Golf Lex Junior Tour, which was introduced in 2023, welcomed an astounding 100 players with a total of 544 rounds played. The 2024 season runs from April 21 to Aug. 18.
