Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton is urging motorists to exercise caution on their drive home this evening as snowfall is expected. While the city is not anticipating significant snow accumulation, the bursts of snow forecasted for this afternoon and evening could impair visibility on the roads.

"We're not expecting a lot of snow accumulation, but visibility can be affected by the bursts of snow that are forecast this afternoon and evening," Mayor Gorton said.

To ensure the safety of residents, the police department is prepared to offer assistance if needed. Additionally, the city's road crews will remain on duty until 8 p.m. when the snowfall is expected to cease. They will treat hills, bridges, and intersections as necessary to maintain safe driving conditions.

In anticipation of the winter weather, the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has activated its Emergency Winter Weather Plan. This plan aims to provide a coordinated response to the immediate needs of individuals experiencing homelessness during extreme cold weather. Shelters will increase their capacity to accommodate those in need.

Furthermore, the Division of Waste Management in Lexington will make adjustments to its collection schedule for the upcoming Christmas and New Year's holidays. Residents are advised to check the revised schedule to ensure their trash and recycling are properly disposed of during this period.

As the city prepares for the winter season, Mayor Gorton reminds residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions. She emphasizes the importance of being mindful of changing road conditions and encourages everyone to prioritize their safety while traveling.

The city of Lexington is committed to ensuring the well-being of its residents and will continue to monitor the weather conditions closely. Residents can report any suggestions or problems through the city's official channels.

Stay tuned for further updates on the weather and city services as necessary.
