Lexington’s Division of Waste Management has announced adjustments to its collection schedule for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays. As a result, residents and businesses are advised to take note of the revised collection dates.

According to the announcement, carts will not be picked up on Friday, December 22, Monday, December 25, or Monday, January 1. Instead, residents who normally receive curbside pickup on Fridays will be served on Wednesday, December 20. It is important to remember that this makeup day is scheduled before the regular pickup day.

For residents who usually have curbside pickups on Mondays, their service will be rescheduled to Wednesday, December 27, and Wednesday, January 3. It is recommended that residents place their carts out after 4 p.m. on Tuesday to ensure Wednesday collection.

Businesses with dumpsters that are typically served by the city on Fridays will have their units picked up on Thursday, December 21, during the week of December 18. Similarly, businesses with dumpsters usually serviced on Thursdays will have their pickups on Wednesday, December 20.

During the weeks of December 25 and January 1, businesses with dumpsters that are normally served on Mondays will have their pickups on Tuesdays, December 26, and January 2. Businesses with dumpsters usually serviced on Tuesdays will be picked up on Wednesdays, December 27, and January 3.

In addition to the waste collection schedule changes, the Division of Waste Management also provided instructions for the disposal of Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland. The curbside collection of natural Christmas trees will take place from January 2 to January 26 on residents' normal collection day. Meanwhile, natural wreaths and garland can be disposed of in the gray yard waste cart. It is important to remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other decorations before disposing of natural items.

Residents and businesses are advised that the Recycle Center, Electronics Recycling Center, and Haley Pike Waste Management Facility will be closed from December 22 to December 25 and from December 30 to January 1.

For any suggestions or problems with waste management services, residents are encouraged to contact the appropriate city department or councilmember.

These changes to the waste management collection schedule aim to ensure the smooth and efficient disposal of waste during the holiday season. By following the revised dates and guidelines, residents and businesses can contribute to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment in Lexington.
