Mayor Linda Gorton has unveiled plans for Lexington's New Year’s Eve celebration, marking the start of the city's 250th anniversary festivities. The event, titled "New Year’s Eve at Central Bank Center," is presented by Maker’s Mark and promises activities for all ages.
“We are just 40 days away from New Year’s Eve. This year, we will ring in the new year, Lexington style,” Mayor Gorton stated. “There’s no better way to kick off our 250th birthday than with a party in the heart of downtown.”
The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. on December 31st in the main exhibition halls on the second floor of Central Bank Center, featuring family-friendly activities such as inflatables and basketball on UK's historic court. A performance by M’Power Rhythm and programming from the Lexington Children’s Museum are also planned.
At 9 p.m., festivities will move to Vine Street concourse outside Central Bank Center with live music performances by Tee Dee Young and Honeychild. The evening will include food trucks, outdoor bars, and a countdown to midnight.
Central Bank Center plays a significant role in hosting this event. Brian Sipe, General Manager of Central Bank Center said, “We are honored that the 250Lex Commission wants to kick off the celebration at the home of so many other noteworthy community events throughout the year."
Allen McDaniel from Downtown Lexington Partnership expressed enthusiasm for welcoming locals and visitors: “Downtown Lexington and the Downtown Lexington Management District are excited to welcome locals and visitors alike to enjoy our diverse, exciting range of dining and entertainment options on New Year’s Eve."
