Lexington's Division of Environmental Services has recently undertaken the removal of several hazardous trees in the downtown area. This action follows an evaluation conducted in late summer, which identified six Willow oak trees as "standing dead." These trees, though devoid of green leaves and not yet fallen, pose a risk due to their potential to fall or lose branches during adverse weather conditions.

The affected trees were located along Main Street, with four situated in front of Phoenix Park and two on East Main Street between Elm Tree Lane and Martin Luther King Blvd. The assessment was carried out by Lexington’s Urban and Community Forestry manager, while a local tree care services contractor handled the removal process.

The city has announced plans to replace these trees at a later date.
