Lexington police arrest suspect in August assault

The Lexington Police Department has arrested one person in connection with an assault that occurred on August 16.

On August 16, 2024, officers were dispatched to a local hospital for a female victim who had been physically assaulted. During the investigation, detectives learned that a male suspect had assaulted the female at a residence on Georgetown Street.

Detectives identified Kurt Smith, 40, as the suspect. Smith was arrested on August 22, 2024, and charged with Assault 1st Degree. He is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, traffic on North Upper Street between Main Street and Short Street will be limited to one lane from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
