The annual Kentucky River Clean Sweep is scheduled for Saturday, June 15. Both new and veteran volunteers will take boats out on the Kentucky River to collect trash along the twelve miles of river that runs through Fayette County. This year's event will be held at Kelley’s Landing, a new city park located at 8949 Old Richmond Road.

For over 25 years, volunteers have dedicated a day each summer to cleaning up the Kentucky River during this event. Participants are expected to gather at Kelley’s Landing by 8:30 a.m., with all volunteers arriving no later than 10:00 a.m. The cleanup activities will conclude around noon, followed by a complimentary lunch for all participants. Volunteers will also receive a River Sweep t-shirt.

Necessary supplies such as trash bags, gloves, and some life vests will be provided; however, those who own life vests are encouraged to bring their own. Volunteers should wear clothes suitable for getting wet and boots or close-toed shoes. The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions, so appropriate attire is advised.

At least twelve boats are required to transport the volunteers who consistently dedicate their Saturdays to this cause. Extra space on boats for additional participants is always appreciated.

Volunteers can register online or by calling LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-CALL. Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, available at the registration tent on the day of the event or downloadable from the registration website.

The Kentucky River Clean Sweep is sponsored by the City of Lexington and the Kentucky River Authority.
