Truck-a-Palooza, the city’s annual touch-a-truck event, will take place this Saturday at a new location. The event will be held at Frederick Douglass High School on June 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Children and adults will have the opportunity to see, touch, and climb inside trucks from Lexington’s Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works as well as the Fire Department. Career information about these departments will also be available during the event.
Attendees can explore various vehicles, including a Waste Management truck, an Urban Forestry knuckleboom, and Traffic Engineering’s bucket truck. Participants will also have the chance to meet the drivers responsible for street cleaning, trash collection, and other essential city services.
Event-goers can pick up an event passport upon entry and collect stamps to earn prizes. Giveaways such as toy trucks and bubble wands are expected to entertain younger visitors. Food options for purchase include pancakes, burgers, hot dogs, chips, shaved ice, and more.
The family-friendly event is free of charge, including parking. Attendees should enter Frederick Douglass High School at 2000 Winchester Road from Winchester Road and follow staff instructions for parking.
A sensory hour will be offered from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., catering to children and adults who prefer quieter environments without loud noises or overstimulation.
