Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Jessamine, Scott, and Woodford Counties, along with their respective municipal governments, are joining forces to develop a regional climate action plan. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the region, and the collaboration is seeking public input on the priority projects proposed.
To gather input, a hybrid meeting will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be primarily hosted at the Senior Center on 195 Life Lane in Fayette County. However, each participating community will have its own public meeting hub with an onsite facilitator. Additionally, individuals can participate directly through Zoom. For those unable to attend or with additional thoughts to share, an online survey will be made available on February 16 and will remain open until Monday, February 19 at 11:59 p.m.
The public meeting and survey are crucial in shaping the regional implementation grant application, which will be used to fund the GHG reduction projects. The effort is made possible through a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The proposed projects focus on three key areas: solar energy, trees, and transportation. These proposals build on existing efforts that have proven to be effective in reducing GHG emissions.
In the words of the organizers, "The regional climate action plan is an opportunity for the community to come together and make a real impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We want to hear from everyone, whether you attend the meeting in person or participate online. Your input will shape the future of our region's sustainability efforts."
The importance of public participation is underlined by the fact that the regional climate action plan will have a direct impact on the community's future. By collaborating and working together, the six counties aim to create a sustainable and resilient region that can serve as a model for others.
For more information on how to participate in the public meeting, find the meeting location for other communities, or take the survey, individuals can visit the Sustainability page on the official website.
This regional initiative signifies a collective commitment to addressing climate change and creating a greener future. By engaging the public and leveraging the expertise and resources of multiple counties, the regional climate action plan aims to make a significant and lasting impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
The organizers encourage everyone to get involved and have their voices heard. As one community member stated, "It's exciting to see our region come together to tackle climate change. This plan will set the course for a more sustainable future for all of us."
