Washington, D.C.– Congressman Barr (KY-06) has voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes $886 billion for the Department of Defense and national security programs for fiscal year 2024. The legislation includes a 5.2% increase in servicemember pay, the highest pay raise in 22 years, as well as addressing the needs of military families, improving housing and healthcare policies, banning drag shows and critical race theory in the military, providing critical support for Israel, and equipping our military to counter Chinese, Russian, and Iranian threats.

Congressman Barr has proudly secured priorities for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District, particularly for the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) in Madison County, Kentucky. One of the provisions he secured is regarding the Feasibility Study for the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant.

In a statement, Congressman Andy Barr expressed his pride in securing language in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act that builds upon the findings of the Blue Grass Army Depot Feasibility Study. He emphasized the vital role the Depot plays in national defense and looks forward to working with the local community and federal stakeholders on opportunities for its future.

Madison County Judge/Executive Reagan Taylor also expressed gratitude for Congressman Barr's advocacy on this matter. As Madison County celebrates the end of chemical weapons sitting in their backyard at the Blue Grass Army Depot, Taylor highlighted the significance of this achievement and the need to identify plans for the Depot and its workforce in the future. He commended the quick progress made in the national defense bill, which supports this local and national imperative.

With Congressman Barr's efforts and the support of the National Defense Authorization Act, the Blue Grass Army Depot and the community of Madison County can look forward to a bright future.
