Fall is an ideal season for planting, and the Lexington community is invited to participate in a volunteer event at Coldstream Park. The LFUCG's Greenspace Trust, in collaboration with Lexington's Division of Environmental Services, is organizing this initiative on Saturday, October 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers will engage in tree planting and native plant installation along the Legacy Trail near Cane Run Creek. This location often accumulates litter from nearby roads. In addition to planting efforts, participants will help clean up the area. The introduction of more trees and native plants aims to reduce stormwater runoff and enhance water quality.

"We’re pleased to support this opportunity to get volunteers involved with planting trees and cleaning up litter near the Legacy Trail," said Alice Hilton, a member of the LFUCG Greenspace Trust. "Cane Run Creek catches litter from many nearby sources, including the expressway, and we want to do everything we can to protect and improve it."

The event receives sponsorship from the Greenspace Trust through generous grants provided by several partners. The initiative was awarded $10,000 from the American Water Charitable Foundation 2024 Water and Environment grant and a $1,000 grant from the LG&E and KU Foundation.
