Lexington’s Public Art Commission is hosting a Public Art Workshop for artists and organizations interested in participating in the city’s public art projects. The workshop, scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center, is free and open to the public.
Mayor Linda Gorton expressed the importance of public art by stating, "Public art enriches our city, and this workshop is a great way to educate our community and get more people involved."
The workshop aims to provide insights into Lexington’s Percent for Art Program and application procedures for the Public Art Commission’s Collaborative Art program. Local artists, including Amanda Matthews, Brad Connell, Dave Caudill, Derek King, and Michelle Armstrong, will share their experiences and provide valuable information on how to engage in public art projects in the city.
Attendees can expect artist presentations, question-and-answer sessions, and discussions on the commissioning, creation, and installation of public art. The event will be recorded and later accessible on the Public Art Commission’s website for those unable to attend in person.
In addition, Lexington will be celebrating its third annual Bike Month in May, calling for community participation to ensure its success.
