Lexington will celebrate its third annual Bike Month in May, and we need you to help make it a success. Nonprofits, neighborhood associations, educators, and anyone with an interest in encouraging bike riding is invited to host an event that celebrates biking for fun, exercise, or commuting. Event hosts are encouraged to consider both new riders and seasoned cyclists for their events while reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention, and share the road.

Planned events include a strawberry lemonade ride, a warm weather counterpart to the recent hot chocolate ride, along with smart cycling courses and a workshop about bike safety and maintenance aimed at children. Lexington is also participating in Love to Ride, an online cycling encouragement platform that aims to help more people ride bikes. During Bike Month, Love to Ride will have challenges and prizes for Lexington and Jessamine County participants.

The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will host its third annual StreetFest on Saturday, May 11, as part of Bike Month. Oliver Lewis Way will be closed between High Street and Broadway to allow people to bike, scoot, skate, jog, or walk along the closed street. Community organizations are invited to set up a table and host performances, classes, or demonstrations related to the event’s mission.

Bike Month event submissions are due by Friday, April 19. Events should promote safe biking practices and ensure driver and pedestrian safety. While free events are preferred, a minimal fee to cover costs is allowed.

Apply to host an event and be part of the celebration of biking in Lexington this May.
