Washington, D.C. - Congressman Andy Barr, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, and Congressman Richard Hudson have introduced the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act to address the tracking of gun sales through the use of a Merchant Category Code.
Speaking about the bill, Congressman Andy Barr emphasized the importance of privacy in purchases, especially when it comes to firearms. He stated, "The privacy of Americans' purchases, especially when it comes to firearms, is non-negotiable."
Congresswoman Elise Stefanik echoed Barr's sentiments, highlighting the bill's aim to protect the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. She expressed, "The tracking of gun purchases is a violation and infringement on the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans."
Congressman Richard Hudson also voiced his support for the legislation, emphasizing the need to prevent the tracking of lawful gun purchases. He stated, "Gun grabbing liberals will stop at nothing to take away our Second Amendment rights. Now, they are going to track purchases of law-abiding gun owners."
Various organizations have also expressed their support for the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act. Lawrence G. Keane from the Firearm Industry Trade Association praised Representative Elise Stefanik for her leadership in protecting citizens' rights and standing against government overreach.
Randy Kozuch, Executive Director of the NRA-ILA, commended Rep. Stefanik for championing the legislation to safeguard the privacy of gun owners nationwide.
Tim Schmidt, President and Co-Founder of the US Concealed Carry Association, applauded the introduction of the bill, stating that it would protect law-abiding gun owners from discriminatory practices by financial institutions.
Jeff Crane, President and CEO of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, expressed gratitude to Rep. Elise Stefanik for introducing the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the privacy of sportsmen and women in their firearm and ammunition purchases.
