Due to inclement weather conditions, waste collection scheduled for Friday, January 19 has been canceled in Lexington, Kentucky. The decision was made in order to prioritize the safety of city employees and residents. A make-up day has been scheduled for next Wednesday, January 24.

Lexington city officials have urged caution to all residents and employees, advising them to be careful when traveling on the roads. The Streets & Roads and Water Quality crews have been actively treating and monitoring the roads overnight. Sidewalk crews are focusing on downtown responsibilities in preparation for the upcoming UK men's basketball game.

In addition to waste collection, the extreme cold temperatures have also impacted other events and services in the city. Parks & Recreation has canceled several events scheduled for Saturday, January 20, including Explore More Outdoors at Jacobson Park, Better Than You Found It at Jacobson Park, and the Owl Prowl at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary.

The LexArts Hop, which was originally scheduled for Friday, January 19, has been postponed until January 26. The Lexington Senior Center remains open, but instructor-led activities/classes have been canceled and lunch will not be served. The satellite centers at the Bell House, Charles Young Center, and Eldercrafters at the Black and Williams Center are closed on Friday.

Lexington Police Department has responded to several collisions and calls for motorist assistance due to the slick road conditions. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, as they tend to become slick first.

The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Emergency Weather Plan is in effect until Monday, January 22. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. Residents who come across someone in need of shelter are encouraged to call the Lexington Police Department non-emergency number.

For more information on the city's snow removal plan, street and sidewalk rankings, as well as updates on delays and closings, residents can visit the city's website at lexingtonky.gov/snow. Real-time updates on accidents, lane blockages, and road closures can also be found on the city's Twitter accounts and traffic cameras.

As the city continues to deal with the harsh weather conditions, residents are advised to stay updated on any further developments and to take necessary precautions when venturing outside.
