Lexington Parking Authority (LEXPARK) has announced the extension of its popular "Food for Fines" program, in collaboration with God's Pantry Food Bank. The program, which allows individuals to donate canned goods in exchange for reduced parking fees, has been extended due to overwhelming community support. The initiative will run through Friday, December 29.

The "Food for Fines" program was first introduced in 2014 with the aim of fostering community engagement and supporting those in need during the holiday season. To participate, individuals with outstanding parking tickets can donate canned goods at the LEXPARK offices located at 122 North Broadway in Lexington.

"We are thrilled to extend the 'Food for Fines' program and continue our partnership with God's Pantry Food Bank," said a spokesperson from LEXPARK. "The outpouring of support and generosity from the community has been truly heartwarming."

To receive the reduced parking fees, individuals are encouraged to donate canned vegetables and meat that are at least 14 ounces in size, as well as dry goods such as beans or peanut butter. It is important to note that expired, damaged, or opened food donations cannot be accepted.

For every 10 cans of food donated, individuals will receive a $15 discount on any LEXPARK or Lexington Police-issued parking citation. There is no limit on the number of canned food items that can be donated, allowing individuals with multiple citations to make a significant contribution.

Residents can easily check if they have a citation by entering their license plate number on the "Pay a Citation" page on the LEXPARK.org site.

"This extension of the 'Food for Fines' program demonstrates LEXPARK's commitment to serving the Lexington community beyond its parking services," the spokesperson added. "We are dedicated to contributing positively to the well-being of our community."

LEXPARK, established by the Urban County Council in 2006, aims to provide high-quality, customer-focused public parking and promote economic growth in Lexington.

In addition to the extended "Food for Fines" program, the Lexington Parking Authority has also announced that its office will be closed on December 22 and 25.

As the holiday season approaches, the Division of Waste Management will also adjust its collection schedule for Christmas and New Year's holidays.

For any suggestions or problems with the program, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the Lexington Parking Authority.

The Lexington community has shown immense support for the "Food for Fines" program, and this extension allows more individuals to contribute to a worthy cause while receiving a benefit themselves.
