The City of Lexington has extended the deadline for its Solarize Lexington program, which assists residents in installing solar panels on their homes. Interested participants must submit an interest form by Monday, September 2 to be eligible for this year's program.
Grant funds remain available for low to moderate-income homeowners who own and occupy their single-family homes. Eligible residents should contact the Division of Community and Resident Services at (859) 300-5300. Proof of residence, homeownership, and income are required, with funding provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Solarize Lexington aims to simplify and reduce the cost of adopting solar energy by offering a discount of up to 15%. The program is open to homeowners, non-profits, small businesses, and places of worship in Fayette County.
Officials have warned about potential scams related to the program. "No one from Solarize Lexington will contact you unless you reach out first," they stated. The legitimate partners are the Kentucky Solar Energy Society and Solar Energy Solutions. Residents are advised to be wary of high-pressure sales tactics promising rebates or urging immediate contract signing.
All solar installations will be managed through individual contracts between households and solar installers. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government will not assume any liability for these contracts. Contracts must be signed by September 27.
