Mayor Linda Gorton, Police Chief Lawrence Weathers and several members of the Urban County Council today cut a ribbon to officially open the new East Sector Roll Call, a satellite office where police officers who work in the eastern section of the city report for duty.

“This a big step forward in public safety. It positions police closer to major traffic arteries and to neighborhoods along Man O’ War,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “It will also save money in utility expenses and in rent.”

Chief Lawrence Weathers said, “The new roll call facility is much larger and a wonderful opportunity for the community and Lexington Police Department. The location will allow East Sector officers to serve residents, businesses, and visitors better, while providing a space for training and community engagement.” 

The $4.2 million building was designed with energy efficiency in mind, using insulated concrete wall construction, high-efficiency windows, and a geothermal heating and cooling system. Work areas all receive natural light. The building is designed to accommodate solar panels, if needed.

The new building incorporates many security features, including a controlled entrance, bullet-resistant materials, a separation of private offices and meeting spaces, a separate entrance for the public and police, a storm shelter, and separation between public and police parking.  

The building, located at 4385 Clearwater Way, encompasses almost 7,900 square feet. It is built of durable materials to keep long-term maintenance and repair costs down.

The facility’s conference room and roll call are separated by a movable partition that allows for an increased space that could be used for community meetings, award ceremonies, or classroom training opportunities.

Previously, the East Sector Roll Call was located on Centre Parkway, in a facility rented by police. The new facility has been built on land already owned by the City, part of Veterans Park. It is next to Fire Station 22.
