FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to aid recovery efforts in areas affected by severe storms on April 2, 2024. Federal funding will be provided to individuals and businesses impacted in Boyd, Carter, Fayette, Greenup, Henry, Jefferson, Mason, Oldham, Union, and Whitley counties.

According to FEMA, the assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs designed to help individuals and business owners recover from the storm's effects.

Those affected by the storms in the designated areas can apply for FEMA assistance by calling 1-800-621-3362, registering online at DisasterAssistance.gov, or using the FEMA App. Lexington Emergency Management will provide updates on how to apply for assistance as they become available. These updates will be accessible on BeReadyLexington.com and through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter (X), and Instagram.

In related news, due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27, there will be no city waste collection.
