Lexington Clinic Orthopedics-Sports Medicine Center Athletes of the Week: Taylor Enlow and Matthew Johnson

WILMORE, Ky. --- Junior Taylor Enlow (Softball) and senior Matthew Johnson (Baseball) have been named the Asbury University Athletes of the Week presented by the Lexington Clinic Orthopedics-Sports Medicine Center.

Taylor Enlow is a junior from Bowling Green, Ky., who is majoring in Social Work. Enlow is a strong leader who played a versatile role for the Eagles this past week. When AU played Midway and Berea this past weekend, Enlow pitched for the first time this season, going 1-1 and throwing seven strikeouts in a total of 12 innings.

The Eagles are on a three game win streak, with two big wins against Berea and one against Midway.  Enlow helped lead the team to a victory, with a stellar performance against Berea, handing the Mountaineers back to back run rule games.

In the doubleheader against Berea, Enlow went 6-8 at the plate, racking up nine RBI, four doubles, and two runs. Her batting average for game one was .436 and in game two earned a .436 average.

Enlow will continue to be a massive force for AU in all areas of the game as they look to continue their win streak.

"Taylor has always been a leader for this team. This past week, she has really stepped up on the field. Our team has been going through a slump and she's a big reason we were able to break free of it. Whether she's playing short, pitching, or hitting, I know I can count on her."   Ally Moore| Head Softball Coach.

Matthew Johnson is a senior from Lexington, Ky., pursuing a degree in Sports Management. This past week, Johnson helped AU take a huge win against Wright State Lake College on Sunday evening. The Eagles and Lakers went 1-1 in the first two games of the series, leaving the winner of the series dependent on game three.

In game three, Johnson had a four-hit game, providing his team with two RBI and going an impressive 4-5 at the plate. Throughout the series as a whole, Johnson tallied seven hits, three RBI, and two stolen bases. Asbury will continue to look to senior Johnson to provide for the team as they pursue a successful season.

"MJ has done a great job stepping up and filling our every day role at shortstop. He's had to be the "next man up" for our team and his play has shown the depth of our team. We're confident he'll continue to play well for us, and I'm grateful he is a part of our squad."  Manny Cervantes | Head Baseball Coach
