John Greer Named Asbury Men's Soccer Associate Head Coach

The Asbury University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announces that John Greer has been named associate head coach for the men's soccer program.

Greer comes to Asbury from his head coaching job at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. Greer was also an assistant coach at Asbury's cross-town rival Transylvania University where he won two HCAC conference tournaments. He also served as an assistant coach for Semi Pro Lansing Common FC who play in the Midwest Primer League.

Born and raised in Lexington, Ky., Greer graduated high school at Lexington Christian Academy. After graduation he attended Asbury University for four years graduating in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health education. He was also a four-year starter, senior captain, and All-NCCAA (National Christian College Athletics Association) Mid-East Region player for the Eagles. Greer competed in three straight Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, winning two out of three.

Greer's main duties as associate men's soccer head coach include serving as first assistant for the men's program, coordinate/oversee second team, recruiting, and player development.

Head coach Ben Andrews had this to say about the new addition, "Though the vacancy left by Coach Welch was large, we could not have found a better fit than John. His experience paired with his passion and desire to invest in both the person and player will hopefully allow our team to grow in ways we've yet to experience."

"First, I want to give thanks to God for providing this opportunity to join the staff at Asbury", said Greer. "I am blessed to be a part of what Coach Andrews and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mark Whitworth have been building in the men's soccer program and athletics department. Coaching at your alma mater is a special thing and having that also be so close to where you grew up makes it that much better. Simply put, Asbury is home. Go Eagles!"
