Lexington Clinic Orthopedics-Sports Medicine Center Athletes of the Week: Jaclynn Ruble and Luke Holton

Senior Jaclynn Ruble (Women's Basketball) and sophomore Luke Holton (Men's Track and Field) have been named the Asbury University Athletes of the Week presented by the Lexington Clinic Orthopedics-Sports Medicine Center.

Jaclynn Ruble is a senior captain from Lawrenceburg, Ky., who is majoring in Exercise Science.

At guard, Ruble guided the Eagles to a three-game win streak this past week in games against Johnson and Wales, Warren Wilson, and Welch.

At Welch, Ruble led the Eagles with 22 points, three assists, and six rebounds, shooting 7-7 from the line. In the third quarter, she helped lead the Eagles' charge over the Flames, scoring 12 points within the quarter.

Against Johnson and Wales, she put up 20 points, collected a season-high of eight rebounds as well as a season-high of five assists, and threw 4-4 from the line.

On Saturday, Ruble went 5-6 at the line and recorded eight points to bring AU to a win over Warren Wilson.

Ruble has become a clear leader on the team and will look to bring her momentum into the remainder of the season and help her team continue their winning streak.

"I can't say enough about Jac! She never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think she reaches her threshold, she finds another gear. She has facilitated our offense this year, but then this week we needed scoring, so she went out and got us back to back 20 point games, along with rebounding. She is beginning to emerge as the clear leader of this group."

Chad Mayes | Head Women's Basketball Coach

Luke Holton, a sophomore from Concord, Mi., is studying Christian Ministries.

This past Friday, Holton had the opportunity to compete as a member of Asbury's relaunched track and field team as they opened their 2023 season.

Holton brought his talent over from cross country into track and field, excelling in the 400 and 800 meter run.

This weekend he competed in the Men's 800 meter, placing 13th overall of 47 runners, clocking in at 2:04.56.

As only a sophomore, Holton will continue to improve and lead the Eagles on their journey as they begin to compete in more track and field events as a team.

"Luke has done well in cross country the last couple of years, but with the addition of track and field he really has a chance to shine. He is a great 400 and 800 runner and already has the sixth fastest 800 on the Asbury All-Time list out of the 35 athletes who have run the event since 1972 when Asbury track first began. He is a joy to coach because no matter how hard the workout is he always does it with a smile."
