This week in Lexington Metro history.

Dermontti Dawson Born on June 17, 1965

Dermontti Dawson was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on June 17, 1965. He attended Bryan Station High School, where he competed in football and track. At the University of Kentucky, he played center and guard, lettering all four years. Drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1988, Dawson spent his entire NFL career with the team. He earned seven Pro Bowl selections and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012. After retiring, he returned to Lexington and worked in real estate development. He later moved to San Diego. Dawson established a graduate fellowship at the University of Kentucky and served on the school’s board of trustees. His achievements in football and his continued support of education maintain his strong connection to Lexington.
