Congressman Barr (KY-06) has issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court of the United States' (SCOTUS) decision on the case, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau et al. v. Community Financial Services Association of America, Ltd., et al.

Barr expressed disappointment at the ruling, which upheld the funding structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). He quoted Justice Alito's dissenting opinion: "[t]he Framers would be shocked, even horrified, by this scheme,” particularly as it allows the agency to “bankroll[s]” its own agenda without any congressional control or oversight.

The Congressman underscored that this ruling brings an increased urgency to his proposed bill, the CFPB Transparency and Accountability Reform Act. The legislation aims to rectify what he perceives as structural flaws within the CFPB. It proposes subjecting the agency to congressional appropriations processes and reforming it for greater accountability to American citizens through their elected representatives in Congress.

Barr emphasized that this perceived setback in the Supreme Court only strengthens his resolve to advocate for reforms that will bring accountability to the CFPB.
