Men's Basketball Flashy First Win of the Season
Our Pioneers traveled down to Atlanta Georgia to take on Oglethorpe where they put on a show to earn their first win of the season. Our pioneers have been hit with the injury bug having multiple players out, but this provided the opportunity to find a new one two punch with Green and Penn.
After the Win Assistant Coach Michael Stone had this to say:
"We were really happy with the effort tonight, with significant contributions from a lot of different guys. The second half we locked in and had better focus on the defensive end, which allowed us to take the lead and hold that lead. Offensively we really shared the ball (21 assists on 34 made field goals). We are looking forward to a great crowd for our home opener vs. Centre on Monday night."
Going into halftime the Pioneers were down by only 1 being 35-36 then came out in the second half playing not just great defense but putting everything together offensively. Sophomore Guard Jaylan Green and Sophomore Center Hunter Penn were the focal points of the offense, with Penn scoring 26 going 13/17 while collecting 17 boards giving himself a double double. Green was lighting up the court with fantastic long ball shooting providing 31 points, 18 of which from 3 point land earning him his new career high.
As Stone said our Pioneers hope to continue the win streak against our rivals the Centre Colonels who come to Beck Monday November 21st. For more on Transylvania men's basketball, follow @TransyHoops on Twitter.
