Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Kentucky

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Kentucky, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kentucky residents paid $12,245 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $303 more than the $11,942 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 137.6 percent more than residents this year, or $29,099. Their price tag grew 3.8 percent from $28,046 in 2017-18.

About 63 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kentucky residents. About 35 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 4,426 students received grants or scholarships totaling $45.4 million and 2,340 students took out student loans totaling more than $20.3 million.

Including all undergraduates (29,182), 18,494 students used grants or scholarships totaling $183.9 million, and 9,526 students took out $64.6 million in federal student loans.
