The Kentucky women’s tennis team defeated Missouri 4-1 at home in conference play on Mar. 27. Freshman Reese Sager led the Wildcats, sweeping her singles match and contributing to a doubles victory with Asuncion Jadue.

This win marks Kentucky’s first Southeastern Conference victory of the season, bringing their record to 9-10 overall and 1-9 in SEC competition. Missouri now stands at 10-11 overall and remains winless in conference play.

In doubles action, Jadue and Sager won decisively on court one with a score of 6-0. Missouri responded by taking court two, but Donna Le Roux and Julia Zhu clinched the doubles point for Kentucky by winning court three, giving the Wildcats an early lead.

Sager continued her strong performance by defeating Alex Ackman from Missouri in singles play, winning both sets without dropping a game in the first (6-0, 6-3). Julia Zhu added another point for Kentucky with a straight-set victory on court two (6-2, 6-2). Although Zoe Hammond fell to Gina Octa of Missouri (3-6, 7-5), Elena Molla secured the match for Kentucky with a hard-fought win against Andrea Artimedi (7-5, 6-4).

The Wildcats will return to Lexington for their next match against Vanderbilt on Sunday at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex before traveling to Georgia later in the week.
