Kentucky women’s basketball falls to No. 4 Texas despite strong effort from Boone

No. 18 Kentucky lost to No. 4 Texas with a final score of 64-53 on Monday night in Austin. Asia Boone led Kentucky with 16 points, while Clara Strack contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. Tonie Morgan added 12 points for the Wildcats.

Texas started the game by scoring first, but Teonni Key tied it early with a layup. After trading baskets, Kentucky briefly took the lead before Texas went on a seven-point run. The Wildcats responded with key plays from Strack and Boone, tying the game at different moments in the first quarter. However, Texas finished the opening period ahead, leading 23-19.

In the second quarter, both teams exchanged three-pointers, with Boone hitting consecutive shots from beyond the arc to tie the game at 28. Texas closed out the half strong, scoring ten straight points to take a 38-28 advantage into halftime.

The Longhorns extended their lead in the third quarter. Kentucky narrowed the gap several times through free throws and field goals by Strack, Key, Boone, and Morgan but trailed 48-41 after three quarters.

Early in the fourth quarter, Kentucky cut Texas’s lead to one point at 49-48 following baskets from Morgan and Strack. However, Texas responded with four consecutive free throws and later went on another scoring run that put them up by ten points late in the game.

Kentucky will next play against Texas A&M at Historic Memorial Coliseum on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
