Zoom Diallo, a sophomore point guard who played two seasons at Washington, has signed with the Kentucky men’s basketball program, the team announced on April 20.
Diallo started in 29 of his 33 games last season for the Huskies and averaged 15.7 points and 4.5 assists per game while shooting nearly 49 percent from the field. He reached double figures in scoring in 23 games, including a career-high of 26 points against Southern California.
The Tacoma, Washington native recorded three double-doubles during his sophomore year. Notable performances included an overtime win over Southern Cal where he tallied 22 points and a career-best 11 assists along with seven rebounds in the Big Ten Tournament. He also had a personal record of 12 assists and scored 16 points against Iowa. His first double-double came against ninth-ranked Illinois with a stat line of 12 points and ten assists.
Against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, Diallo scored in double digits ten times out of eleven matchups and contributed four or more assists nine times. In those games, he averaged over sixteen points and six assists per contest while maintaining strong shooting percentages both from the field (51.8%) and free-throw line (79.4%).
As a freshman at Washington, Diallo appeared in all thirty-one games with twenty-two starts, averaging just over eleven points per game on nearly forty-seven percent shooting from the floor.
Before college, Diallo was highly regarded as a recruit out of Tacoma Curtis Senior High School where he led his team to consecutive state championships and earned MVP honors at both tournaments. He was named Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington as a junior after averaging more than twenty points per game.
