Today, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for the Legacy Business Park in Lexington, Kentucky. U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) was present at the event, having secured a $10 million federal grant through the Community Funding Project process in fiscal year 2024.
The Legacy Business Park is anticipated to create nearly 1,700 jobs and generate over $10 million annually in tax revenue for state and local governments upon completion. The park will feature modern sewage infrastructure, walkways, and roads to support Lexington’s ongoing growth.
“Legacy Business Park will establish the infrastructure necessary to see Lexington continue to grow and flourish,” stated Congressman Barr. He expressed gratitude towards Mayor Gorton and local partners for their support in advancing the project. Barr also acknowledged Commerce Lexington’s role, particularly President and CEO Bob Quick and EVP of Economic Development Gina Greathouse, for facilitating the land agreement between the University of Kentucky and the City of Lexington.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton remarked on the achievement: “Thank you to Congressman Barr. This is an enormous accomplishment that we project will bring almost 1,700 jobs to our community with a combined annual payroll estimated at nearly $100 million.”
Bob Quick from Commerce Lexington highlighted the collaboration behind the project: “Legacy Business Park is the result of unprecedented collaboration among the University of Kentucky, the business community and government.” He also thanked Congressman Barr for his leadership in securing federal funding for the park.
