U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06) voted in favor of the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act for 2026. The legislation includes funding for several projects in Kentucky’s Sixth District.

In a statement, Congressman Barr said, “Kentuckians sent me to Washington to rein in Biden-era spending, put America First, and deliver real results for our communities. This funding package rolls back wasteful Washington spending while making targeted investments that strengthen public safety, modernize critical water and sewer infrastructure, and support American manufacturing and innovation right here in Central Kentucky. I will always fight to be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars while bringing home key federal resources that help our communities grow, create jobs, and build a stronger future.”

The appropriations package will provide $2 million to the University of Kentucky for its Graphite Manufacturing and Characterization Program. The City of Harrodsburg is set to receive $96,192 for police equipment and technology updates. Nicholas County will get $1 million for water improvements.

Clark County is allocated $1 million for sanitary sewer improvements. Winchester Municipal Utilities will also receive $1 million for its sanitary sewer project. Another $1 million is designated for the City of Lancaster’s sanitary sewer extension project. Bourbon County will receive $750,000 toward its water tank project.

Andy Barr has represented Kentucky’s 6th district in Congress since 2013 after replacing Ben Chandler. Before his congressional service, he was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. Barr was born in Lexington in 1973 and currently resides there. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in 1996 and earned his JD from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2001.
