U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06) has announced the allocation of $1.4 million in federal funding for the Industrial Park Improvement Project in Montgomery County, Kentucky. The funds, secured through the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations process, were included in a recently signed bill.

The Montgomery County Fiscal Court requested this funding to acquire property and complete key site development improvements for a new industrial park. The project aims to support economic growth and job creation in the region.

“This investment is a strong step forward for Montgomery County and for Central Kentucky’s economic future,” said Congressman Barr. “By improving infrastructure and preparing sites for development, we are making our region more competitive, attracting new businesses, and creating opportunities for good-paying jobs right here at home. I will continue to advocate for responsible federal investments that deliver real results for Kentucky families and communities.”

The planned improvements include upgrades to water and wastewater systems, construction of access roads, storm drainage enhancements, erosion control measures, and site grading. These steps are intended to prepare the area to support future employers.

Montgomery County Judge/Executive Chris Haddix commented on the impact of the funding: “This funding will allow Montgomery County to take a major step toward developing a modern industrial park that meets the needs of today’s employers. We appreciate Congressman Barr’s commitment to ensuring our community has the infrastructure necessary to grow and thrive.”

State Senator Greg Elkins (R-KY-28) also expressed support: “This investment helps make sure Montgomery County isn’t passed over when companies are looking to expand. With Congressman Barr’s support, we’re building the infrastructure that brings opportunity closer to home for our families and the next generation.”

Jason Rainey, Executive Director of the Mt. Sterling–Montgomery County Industrial Authority, emphasized local benefits: “This investment is really about the people who call Montgomery County home. When we invest in infrastructure, we’re investing in stronger neighborhoods, more stable job opportunities, and a future where our kids don’t have to leave the community to find work. We’re thankful to Congressman Barr and our local leaders for supporting a project that helps Mount Sterling grow in a thoughtful way that benefits families across our county.”

Spears Stilz, Chairman of the Mt. Sterling–Montgomery County Industrial Authority added: “This project is about being ready when opportunity shows up. Too often, communities lose out on employers because the land isn’t prepared or the infrastructure isn’t in place. Congressman Barr helped change that for Montgomery County by securing funding that puts us in a position to compete for real jobs and long-term investment.”

Andy Barr has represented Kentucky’s 6th district since 2013 after succeeding Ben Chandler as U.S. Representative (https://barr.house.gov/about). He previously served in Kentucky’s House of Representatives before joining Congress (https://barr.house.gov/about). Born in Lexington in 1973, Barr graduated from both University of Virginia with a BA degree and University of Kentucky College of Law with a JD.
